Athlete's Foot

Athlete's Foot is caused by a fungus, and it causes red, itchy, blistered, and scaling skin on the feet. Fugus invades the skin of the feet because of the warm, moist enviroment created by our shoes and socks. People that are active in sports or have sweaty feet are more likely to develop this condition. It is important to keep the feet clean and dry. Using an over the counter spray or powder and changing socks frequently are helpful strategies to reducing the occurence of athlete's foot. However, this condition often requires presciption medication. Please contact me at 708-763-0580 if you need treatment for this foot condition.

Ingrown Toenails

An ingrown toenail occurs when the side of the toenail cuts into the adjacent skin. This may be from cutting the nail improperly, trauma (someone stepping on it or dropping an object on it), shoegear or pressure on the nail, or due to the shape of the nail (some people have toenails that naturally curve in toward the skin). The skin around the nail may get red, hot, painful, or swollen, and there may be pus or drainage present. Often, the ingrown portion of nail must be removed to clear the infection. If you think you have an ingrown nail, please contact me for an appointment. 708-763-0580.

What is a bunion?

A bunion occurs when the big toe shifts over toward the second toe, and a bump develops on the inner side of the foot at the big toe joint. There may be pain and redness on the bump, and the bunion may cause difficulty when walking or wearing shoes. Bunions can be caused by flat feet, genetics (inherited), arthritis, and injuries. There are both conservative (non-surgical) and surgical options to treat bunions, so please contact me at 708-763-0580 to discuss what treatment would be best for you!

Fungal Toenails

You may have noticed that some of your toenails are thick, discolored, loose, and/or crumbling. The cause may be a fungus, and there are both oral (pills) and topical (creams, polishes) options to treat the toenails. Please contact me at 708-763-0580 to discuss what treatment plan is best for you! You do not have to live with abnormal or painful toenails!
